The Center for Women's Health is one of the first clinics in the state to offer a new option for permanent birth control.  In-office sterilization, performed in the comfort of our clinic, eliminates anesthesia, incisions, stitches and the need for recovery time.  During this procedure, which only takes a few minutes, tiny coil inserts are placed in the fallopian tubes. Over a period of three months, these inserts cause scarring and block the tubes.

Tubal ligation is another option for permanent sterilization.  A woman who has this surgery can still ovulate and menstruate, but the cut or blocked tubes keep the egg and sperm from meeting.  When the egg and sperm cannot come together, fertilization doesn't happen and pregnancy cannot occur.  This surgery is not recommended as a temporary or reversible procedure.
